Lenovo's O1, China's much-anticipated first 3G OPhone-based mobile phone was officially put on sale in Beijing on December 14. A standard mobile phone is priced at 3,999 yuan, but the China Mobile Beijing Branch offers high subsidies for the model. Users can get the mobile phones for free if they prepay a certain amount of call charges and agree to consume a minimum of 208 yuan in fees per month.
According to China Mobile Beijing Branch's newest plan for "prepaying call charges for mobile phones," a user may join on a two-year plan and get a Lenovo O1 mobile phone for free by prepaying 3,120 yuan in calling charges and agreeing to consume at least 208 yuan in fees per month. Compared with other versions of 3G OPhone-based mobile phones, the minimum monthly calling charge of the two-year plan is lower than that of other plans by nearly 100 yuan.
If users buy a standard Lenovo O1 mobile phone at ordinary distribution stores, they will be entitled to 1,500 yuan in subsidies for calling charges. As the model is customized for China Mobile, it is currently only available at China Mobile's outlets and from its distribution partners.
OPhone is a mobile operating system developed by China Mobile for smartphones. Lenovo is the first supplier to release OPhone-based mobile phones, called the O1, in September. For various reasons, however, the mobile phone is just hitting shelves now.
