8月8日微软推出了Windows Server 2016的第二个Insider测试版。

Windows Server Insider Build 16258 for Windows Server 2016在Windows Server上提供了Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL)，以及多个Linux发行版——Ubuntu、OpenSUSE和SLES。（根据微软的文档，WSL是在Windows Server 2016的Insider Build 16215及更高版本中提供的，但是今天是微软首次强调在Server上提供。）

测试者可以运行node.js、Ruby、Python、Perl、Bash、及其他相关脚本和工具上。不过目前WSL并不支持持久的Linux服务，例如Daemons和作业。

今天的Windows Server Insider Build还包含有Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT)，能够让Windows 10客户端用户远程管理Windows Server Insider Builds。（测试者需要Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Build 16250或者更好版本以使用RSAT。）

根据今天关于这次发布的测试版本的博客文章，Windows Update for Windows Server现在使用的是Delivery Optimization下载工具，自从Anniversary Update以来在Windows 10客户端上一直采用的方式。这种优化可以提供Windows Server设备之间点对点的带宽优化。

微软的博客文章中还附带了Build 16257的已知问题列表。

微软在7月中旬发布了首个Windows Server Insider测试版Build 16237。这两个Server Insider Builds都提供了Windows Server 2016——可能是1709，预计在今年秋季推出——上该功能的早期预览。

微软今年早些时候表示，Windows Server现在改为每年一次功能更新，就像Windows 10客户端以及Office 365 ProPlus一样。微软当时表示，所有这三个平台的功能更新目标发布日期将是在3月和6月。
