At a time when telecom operators are busy in accelerating 3G terminal deployment in China, China Unicom has announced the entrance of iPhone into the country in the fourth quarter.

China Mobile plans to launch OPhone in mid- Sep and China Telecom is negotiating with BlackBerry for 3G terminal market.

It is said that the market price of iPhone and OPhone should be around RMB 5,000. However, operators by taking related subsidy measures to open the market will try to lower the price to around RMB 3,000.

As APP Store of iPhone cannot be introduced, China Unicom is planning on an open platform to enrich 3G application functions.

Reportedly, WiFi will be absorbed by partial OPhone cell phones of China Mobile.

Insiders said the limitation of WiFi function will be eased gradually with lessened control on the wireless function by the state.

Meanwhile, the price of smuggled cell phones at Zhongguancun has dropped by several hundred yuan.

Smuggled cell phones can exist in the market only by price advantage, which is expected to disappear with the popularization of 3G application. The subsidy by operators will undoubtedly lead to a gloomy future of smuggled cell phones.
