SARFT is likely to launch triple play trials in some regions across China, which is fundamental telecom business including video services, fix-phone, broadband, IDC services etc.
Triple Play Trials in Some Provinces
In Hubei Province Ezhou city, Hubei Ezhou Broadcasting Information Network Co.Ltd cooperated with local Unicom to launch triple play service. On 30 December 2009, they signed contract of “triple play network based on Cable TV network in Ezhou rural area”.
According to the contract, they will cooperate in telephone and Internet services. The subscriber of Ezhou broadcasting network will pay CNY10 per month for telephone service.
On December 2009, Jiangxi Radio and Television Data Center (IDC) project was accomplished, which also is network infrastructure of JSGD’s NGB new media data center.
JSGD with 15 million subscribers, keeps leading position in China. JSGD plans to offer broadband access which aim to carry 1 million users concurrently, and build a broadband content data center. Besides, it will supply IDC services such as server hosting.
It is learned that there are some more trials in other places, for example, Hangzhou and Shanghai.
SARFT need to go through two thresholds
Since CMMB began commercial operation in 2009, there is no unified operation body and systematized management system to deal with these services.
To solve this problem, SARFT is hoping to accelerate network integration and developing NGB.
In addition, operation license is another problem for SARFT enterprises, which is issued by MIIT. Without license, SARFT enterprises could not run IDC and telephone services.
It is understood that MIIT is working on it now. (Translated by Alice He)
