Sales of 3G handsets in the China market are expected to top 35-43 million units in 2010, accounting for 12-15% of total handset sales compared to a ratio of 6-8% in 2009, according to industry watchers in Taiwan.
Of the total sales of 3G handsets, TD-SCDMA models will top 15-20 million units, while CDMA 2000 EV-DO and WCDMA models will reach 10-12 million unit each, the sources indicated.
Additionally, sales of smartphones will account for 10% of total handset sales in the China market this year, added the sources.
Branded smartphone vendors Acer, Asustek Computer and Dopod, which has a strong business connection with HTC (High Tech Computer), are expected to focus their marketing efforts on the smartphone segment in China, the sources commented.
