China Mobile is understood to have issued relevant documents, clearly put forward the new restrictions on the traditional SDH systems, instead to focus on PTN system, which is believed to be better on the transmission network construction and the support of 3G based services.
According to reliable sources in 2G era, SDH can be well positioned to meet China Mobile’s core network and business requirements. But in 3G era, SDH is not enough, as TD-SCDMA network growing rapidly, its need for the ability to support more data traffic is growing too in this scenario the traditional SDH appears powerless. The PTN, with high-quality, easy management and maintenance features, can be well adapted to the growing number of 3G Packet Data Service. At the same time, PTN is also very suitable for the features of large scale, huge number of nodes structural characteristics of domestic networks.
In last month, China Mobile completed the first round collection of PTN equipments, ZTE, Huawei, Fiberhome, Shanghai Bell and Ericsson shared the first 50,000 set equipments.
Currently ,the domestic 3G is still in the early development stage and lots of data services have been not started.(Paul)
