Although China Mobile’s FTTx test result has not yet been pubished, but work on 10GGPON test has already started. On 20 January, China mobile, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of P.R.C (MIIT) and vendors had committed this test.
Just a month before, Verizon had started 10GGPON test and China Mobile has followed this technology trend quickly.
Technology Test Details
It is understood that the test is executed by Telecom Standardization Institute of China Academy of Telecommunication Research of MIIT. It expects to finish the test before Spring Festival. The test is mainly about interoperability between Physical Layer and Datalink Layer.
The principle of this test is about technology verification of 10GGPON technical specification, but it is not a product test.
It is learned that there are less than ten 10GGPON devices around world, which is owned by few vendors such as Huawei and Alcatel-Lucent. It is still a long way to 10GGPON commercial trial. Morevoer, China Mobile’s enthusiasm of GPON technology inspired GPON vendors.
About FTTx Centralized Procurement
In the end of last year, China Mobile had started FTTx Centralized Procurement, it plans to achieve 3 million lines in Q1 of 2010.
It is reported that the FTTx Centralized Procurement includes GPON(2.5GGPON) and EPON(1GEPON). It is also the first big-scale Centralized Procurement and deployment of GPON in China. There are many vendors involved in this Centralized Procurement such as Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Fiberhome, Huawei, ZTE and Motorola etc.
The price of GPON devices are as cheap as EPON devices. And who will win the bid will depend on the cheapest price offered by vendors. (Alice He)
