China Mobile plans to enter fixed broadband services field.
According to sources, China Mobile had launched a “Fiber E Space” service in 2005, which aims to offer fixed broadband service to enterprise users and individual user living in residential area. But it failed because lack of backbone network resources and bandwidth capacity.
Through bidding, China Mobile is purchasing GPON and EPON devices together. As a result, ZTE, Huawei, Bell Shanghai, Ericsson, and Fiberhome entered into GPON bidding. And finally ZTE, Huawei, Bell Shanghai, and Fiberhome got EPON bidding.
In Fact, China Mobile has deployed fixed broadband network services in several provinces. Accordingly, Guangdong Mobile has proposed a “Thousands building Fiber Strategy”, which expects to establish 5000 WLAN hotspots and roll out FTTH, FTTB technology. Besides, Chongqing Mobile also applies FTTB and UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) modes in residential area, Office, school, government and enterprises. (By Alice He)
