The total sales volume will exceed 3 millions in 2009. According to the expectation for January 2010, the purchase number of TD cell phone will be grater than the total sales number of 2009, which is good news for Qualcomm.
It is worth mentioning here that TD chip vendor COMMIT stopped their operation and split into two companies, which were Suzhou ASTwireless and Shanghai DIGIMOC.
DIGIMOC was purchased by Taiwan M-Mstar. M-Mstar has already announced that they will enter TD-SCDMA market in 2010. Qualcomm though acquisition of ASTwireless, is obviously involved in TD-SCDMA market.
The merger of COMMIT, ASTwireless and Qualcomm has turned the market into a international race. In addition, the market competition will be fiercer than before.
The enrollment of Qualcomm and Marvel will be positive for TD market development, at the same time, it puts more pressure on domestic TD chip vendors.
