China-based Huawei Technologies continues to expand its share in the Asia Pacific WiMAX market alongside the fast deployment of WiMAX networks in the region, according to industry sources.
Huawei recently signed a contract with Korea-based KT Telecom for the supply of US$182 million worth of WiMAX equipment, said the sources, noting that KT Telecom previously made procurements mainly from Samsung Electronics for its WiMAX roll-outs.
Additionally, Huawei will also supply 700 WiMAX base stations to India-based service provider BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam), which plans to complete its WiMAX network before the end of March, the sources indicated.
According to data released by the WiMAX Forum, the number of WiMAX networks deployed in Asia has reached 100, and covers 237 million people.
