On 15 January, BestTV, subsidiary company of Shanghai Media Group (SMG) has announced that it has cooperated with France Telecom in technology, content and investment fields of Triple Play.
Chinese Government just released a strategy, which aims at pushing Triple Play development in China. Subsequently, SMG leads development of Internet video in PC, Mobile TV and IPTV. The company has the largest number of subscribers.
Meanwhile, SMG plans to extend its internetional business via cooperation platfrom of BestTV and France Telecom.
Collaborate With France Telecom
BestTV signed a contract on commercial technology with France Telecom. According to the contract, France Telecom will buy content distribution technical management software based on IPTV operation from BestTV. This software is developed and owned by BestTV, and the contract values more than CNY10 million.
SMG will apply advanced middleware and accounting technologies from France Telecom to compensate weaknesses in BestTV.
In the contract, they also plan to invest and operate in New Media such as IPTV across Southeast Asia countries. Another famous TV station in China called Hunan TV also collaborate with British Independent Television (ITV) to produce TV program, which will broadcast first in China then export to oversea market.
Integration of Three-Screen
Another key point in the contract is that the cooperation platform of France Telcom and BestTV will broadcast live program during Shanghai World Expo.
The definition of “Three Screen Integration” is to integrate TV, cellphone and PC screens together into one. It is a future trend of the telecom industry. (Alice He)
