到2017年的时候，微软希望将Windows 10的用户数提升到10亿。而为了达成这一目标，该公司面向Windows 7和Windows 8.x用户推出了首年免费升级的方案，以及一些敦促用户升级的“专用补丁”。不过最近，该公司又一次这么做，以确保即使Windows 7用户将它们屏蔽之后，仍然可以在计算机上弹出提示。
Windows 7仍然是当前世界上用户基数最大的桌面操作系统。
InfoWorld的Woody Leonhard写到：总共有6个补丁被重新发布，除了鼓励升级到Windows 10之外，还有此前用于收集Windows 7数据的公告。
大多数Windows 7更新都被打上了“重要”的标记，且Windows Update中会“建议”用户更新，只是用户不见得知道自己都更新了些什么。
